USED: Used diesel engines are pulled directly from a vehicle and generally not even so much as surface cleaned. Used components are not disassembled, internally cleaned or inspected. Junkyard or used components can have high mileage along with a poor maintenance history, and that can be a failure waiting to happen. Many used or junkyard components come from a vehicle that was involved in an accident, so there may be unseen damage.
REBUILT: To rebuild is reconditioning by cleaning, inspecting and replacing severely worn or broken parts. In the rebuild process, serviceable parts are reused within the manufacturer’s acceptable wear limits. Rebuilt component quality can vary widely and many rebuilds come with only a short term warranty.
REMANUFACTURED: Remanufacturing is to make as closely to new as possible. Core material – heads and block castings, crankshaft, camshaft and rods – are carefully inspected and checked against original equipment measured specifications for correct dimensional tolerances then precisely machined. Replacement parts are new or requalified to meet exacting standards and tolerances. Testing is performed to meet the measured specifications of the manufacturer and original production standards.

ALL JASPER REMANUFACTURED UNITS have a core and skid charge billed at the time of sale. When the core is returned, a JASPER Associate will determine the amount to be credited back to the customer’s account. The core that is returned to us must be a like-for-like Make, Model and Type – not a junkyard core. Cores must be returned drained of all fluids and oil, assembled and attached to the same undamaged skid on which your remanufactured engine was shipped. Cores must be returned within 30 days of the delivery date to receive credit. Full credit will be given unless certain damages and exceptions noted in our core policy are found.
Because the core policy on our remanufactured diesel engines varies according to several parameters, it is best to speak to one of our sales representatives to receive information as it relates to your specific engine application.
JASPER offers two different formats of remanufactured diesel engines based upon your needs and application.
The Running Complete Engine will be remanufactured using a standard set of new internal parts. All other castings and components will be remanufactured to O.E.M. specifications. This engine will generally include the block, heads, valve covers, oil pump and pan, timing cover, fuel injection pump with injectors, turbo (if applicable), intake manifold, water pump and oil cooler. (Some of these components may not be included with particular engines or applications based on engine type.) Our engines do not include belts, hoses, sending units, exhaust manifolds, air compressors, flywheel, fan blade, remote oil coolers, starter, alternator or any special drive units. Electronic engines may include sensors and/or select electronic components. The engine will be dynamometer tested with recorded checks on horsepower, RPM and oil pressure. All phases of the governor, valve train and fuel injection system will be adjusted.
The Complete Engine will be remanufactured using a standard set of new internal parts. All other castings and components will be remanufactured to O.E.M. (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. The Complete Engine will be tested and will include the block, heads, oil pump and oil pan, oil cooler, front cover, and finishing gaskets, depending on engine model. Other components such as injectors, intake, water pump, etc., may be included, depending upon engine model.
The above are typical examples and may vary by specific diesel engine model and application.
It is always advisable to take the steps necessary to perform a thorough and quality based installation. If you have a turbocharged application, and you purchase a format that does not include the turbo, it is vitally important that you install a new or remanufactured turbocharger. The oil from your diesel engine also operates the turbo. If you experienced an engine failure, it is almost certain that the oil became contaminated and this oil, in turn, contaminated the turbocharger. Failure to replace the contaminated turbocharger will result in premature engine failure as the contaminated oil makes its way into oil system of your remanufactured engine. It is also important that you install a fuel system that is operating at optimum performance levels to be sure that you receive the best performance from your remanufactured engine.
Yes, in addition to remanufacturing a complete line of domestic and import diesel engines, JASPER offers a selection of fuel and air system components including fuel pumps, injectors and turbochargers.
Most JASPER Remanufactured Diesel Engine Running Complete applications are covered by a 2 Year/Unlimited Mileage nationwide warranty – parts and labor. A full warranty disclosure is available on this website.
